Our client, a non-profit who believes that birthdays should never go un-celebrated — even if you don’t have a roof over your head that you routinely call “home” – had a vision of reaching a younger audience with a book. The founder of the organization has a passion for writing children’s books about kindness, helping others, and being kind to the Earth as part of their fundraising efforts. But never having published a book before, she was unsure of how to start.
There is a lot more involved with publishing a book than just writing the story and we had to get involved with this great charity that is changing the lives of those less fortunate every day. In addition to publishing the illustrated children’s book, we also designed the book’s online presence. In the past year, we have also edited and published a follow-on book on KDP in print and digital formats.
A New Way to Teach Kids About Kindness
Book Design & Publishing
Maria, the heart and soul of Maria’s Birthday Wishes for the Homeless, gave us the text she’d written and the images her niece had drawn and we got down to work. We retouched the images, formatted the layout, edited the text with Maria and Michael (her son the lyricist), designed the covers and prepared the book for publication. Once all of that was completed, we launched the book on Amazon Kindle Publishing for the world to buy and fall in love with!
Fun Website Design
Since the book’s audience is both children and adults, we struck a careful balance between fun and professional design elements, while providing information for buyers and teachers, as well as keeping the website easy to use. One of the important features of the website is the Acts of Kindness page which encourages children to submit their own kind behavior onto the website. The organization goes to visit schools and other organizations on a regular basis, so they use this method to build interest from a young age in learning what it means to help other individuals.
